PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

In today's Thursday folder and Cardinal Weekly you will see that Open House & Sock Hop is next Thursday, January 24, from 5:30-7:00pm. Since our return to school, all students have been practicing dances in PE class. With just one week to go, the buzz on campus is all about what students and staff are going to wear and trying to guess who will wear the fabulous Elvis outfit.

In the past the Sock Hop was a daytime event, but this year there will not be a daytime event for parents to attend. We are thrilled to share that this popular event will now be an activity the entire family can enjoy in the evening.  Grade levels will be practicing their dance moves and have a "dress rehearsal" during the day. In the evening your children are going to escort you to the cafeteria to show off their moves and will invite you to dance as well! Students are encouraged to dress up and wear 50's attire to school and during the evening events. Parents, siblings and guests are encouraged to dress up too. With that said, no one is required to dress up, but it sure adds to the fun!

Open House, paired with Sock Hop, will begin at 5:30pm and end at 7:00pm. This is a come-and-go event with families welcome to stay as long as they like. Parking will be tight, so we encourage you to use the Forest Trail Elementary parking lot. Those with large vehicles may choose to take advantage of grass parking. Please be extremely careful to NOT park against any red curbs as to allow emergency vehicles full access to campus at all times. All yellow curbs are fair game, including the bus and car line areas.

If Valley View is familiar to you, please join us in extending a warm welcome to new families while on campus.  We will model for our children an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere for everyone. By the end of the night we hope every child and family has made it around the school to visit current and former teachers, danced in the cafeteria and visited with friends.

I am looking forward to dancing with you very soon!

Excitedly,

Jennifer Dusek
