Dearest Valley View,

Today is a BIG day at VVE! Entering the cafeteria this morning we discovered a spectacular display of creativity, dedication and hard work on the part of parent volunteers. The stage has been transformed into a movie theatre and the musical production by the VVE choir and percussion ensemble was captivating from start to finish. If you missed the opportunity or want to enjoy the show a second time, please join us in the cafeteria at 6:00pm for the evening performance. We know it will be a packed house, so we have some expectations that should allow everyone equal access to great seats.

This evening the cafeteria will remain closed until 5:45 p.m. Guests arriving early may wait in the lobby, under the portico or line up (just like you do at the movie theatre for a sold out show) until the doors open at 5:45 p.m. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER until 5:45pm.

Out of respect for everyone in attendance this evening we ask that families DO NOT RESERVE MORE THAN TWO SEATS PER FAMILY when you enter the cafeteria at 5:45.  This includes parent volunteers and staff, too. Reserved signs posted prior to the doors opening at 5:45pm will be removed unless specifically reserved by Mr. Z for designated guests. Sadly, we have had repeated instances where families reserved an entire row, with their guests arriving AFTER the show began or not arriving at all. This has proved to be very discouraging and frustrating to those who arrived early, found their seats but longed for the vacant seats, and to those who were forced to stand with open seats cradling "reservered" signs. We understand that many households will arrive in two cars so reserving two seats will prevent the "mass reserving" that occurred during past performances. We would like your feedback after tonight's performance to see if these new expectations were helpful. We promise these new expectations were created with the intention to benefit all families and guests.

Lastly, I announced after this morning's performance that I will not be in attendance this evening and the reason why. The reaction from students in support of my decision to be "somewhere else physically, while my thoughts are with them" was incredibly moving.

Last June, we raised over $10,000 toward the Make a Wish Foundation, earning me a coveted (and in my case, dreaded) spot in the Over the Edge event. I have a tremendous, very real fear of heights. This was not my kind of summer fun. Repelling Over the Edge of a building was absolutely terrifying! However, knowing that a wish would be granted and with family and friends below me (promising to catch me), I showed my gratitude and respect for those wanting a wish by just doing it! Tonight, I reap the benefits in ways I cannot yet imagine. I have the honor and privilege of sharing in the wish that my Over the Edge effort is making come true.

While our children are singing, playing and entertaining, I will be visiting the home of a 9-year-old little boy. This little boy is living with multiple diagnoses that affect his life in profound ways. He lives right outside of Austin and I get to go to his house. His wish is simple, yet incredibly impactful and powerful for him - his wish is to have an ADA play set.  An adaptive play set will allow this child to play with family and friends every day- something a regular play set cannot provide.  Knowing how much children LOVE to play, I am thrilled to know that the money we raised is making such a practical and meaningful wish come true.

My wish tonight is that you enjoy the show and afterwards, you give thanks and appreciation for good health, great schools, generous neighbors and a loving community in which we raise our children.

I cannot wait to share my experience with everyone. Thank you for providing me such a positive, life-changing opportunity.

Lovingly,

Jennifer Dusek

Dollar Raffle Days!

On April 23-25, all students will have the opportunity to participate in Dollar Raffle Days for a chance to win fabulous prizes! Students can purchase raffle tickets for $1.00 each during their lunch time. Some of the raffle items include: special activities with teachers/staff, Principal for the Day, PE Pizza Party with 17 friends, and a variety of themed baskets such as Sports, Art, Legos, Science, Games, etc... Please encourage your child to save and earn money to use towards Dollar Raffle Days!

Tickets are $1.00 and will be sold during lunch. Students are required to finish their lunch and then they may purchase raffle tickets. We STRONGLY encourage parents to pre-print raffle tickets at home and send the tickets to school with money in a Ziploc bag. Adult volunteers will be available to help the students, but filling out the tickets at home is recommended and more efficient for students and volunteers. The template for tickets will be sent the week before the raffle.

Winners will be announced on Friday, April 27th at assembly.

Volunteers are needed to help students fill out the raffle tickets and take money for raffle sales. Please sign up here: http://signup.com/go/XkAcAwX or email Lauren Praytor at Lauren.Praytor@gmail.com or Sarah Miller at SarahTankMiller@gmail.com with any questions.
