Dear VVE Parents,

The likelihood of anyone reading my message right now is about as far-fetched as me looking fabulous in a bikini on spring break, but I'm willing to take a risk (on the newsletter, NOT the bikini) and share some important highlights before we dance our way through the Sock Hop and race out the door Friday afternoon. 

Talk about a wake up call. I just realized we are entering the final nine weeks of school AND get this, there are only 48 days of school left after spring break. That means we have 48 precious, glorious days to fill children's heads and hearts with all the things we want them to know and learn before they graduate to the next grade level. There is so much to do, learn and enjoy before this year ends.  

Three important things to note before spring break and thereafter.  

Dismissal Manager:

We appreciate your participation in learning and using a new system. The time saved in checking and responding to emails and phone calls related to after school schedules and transportation changes has resulted in greater efficiency and accuracy in getting children exactly where they need to be at the end of the school day. The burden and stress that teachers have felt for years has been drastically and dramatically reduced and for that reason alone, I am eternally grateful for your support of Dismissal Manager. 

It is very important that you understand that all teachers are now relying 100% on Dismissal Manager for ALL transportation changes at the end of each day. That means the training wheels have come off the bike and you (parents) are now solely responsible for managing your child's absences and transportation changes.

I have given all teachers a gentle, yet firm directive to NOT accept ANY emails or phone call requests for absences or transportation changes. They will respond to your requests by reminding you that they cannot accept your request. They will direct you to http://smart-tag.net to enter the request in Dismissal Manager. Our goal is to use the system as intended with fidelity and consistency in a safe and accurate dismissal.  

Over time, it will become second nature for all parents (including me) to remember we MUST enter ALL ABSENCES and TRANSPORTATION changes into the system. I am personally struggling to remember the "little things" like the change when my child needed to attend a birthday party in the gym or his dad was picking him up on Early Release day. Together, we'll form the habits necessary to reap the benefits of this new system.

Yearbooks: 

This week we finalized our order for yearbooks. The quantity IS limited. We have had over 100 orders in the last 48 hours and the quantity IS limited, so act fast.

5th Grader Parents ONLY: 

We need an adorable, silly or sweet baby OR toddler photo of every 5th grade student. Send the photo to bibi.maddox@gmail.com. In the email please include the correct spelling of your child's first (the name they like to be called) and their last name.  

Bikini jokes aside, I wish you all a rejuvenating spring break. I hope you intentionally choose activities that bring you and your family joy and that you return from spring break safe and sound, happy and whole, and ready to finish the year strong!
