PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Parents,

The first photo above was taken Tuesday morning during the fifth grade overnight Live Oak field trip. I followed a group of students after breakfast to the fishing pier. The morning was surreal as we observed moments of absolute stillness, watched the fog dancing just above the water, heard the quiet splash of fish jumping and felt comfort from the sun as it kissed and warmed our hands and faces. The children were almost reverent as they simply sat and waited for the fish to bite. The photo embodies not only the beauty and wonder of the fifth grade Live Oak adventure, but the love and respect between a teacher and a child that has bloomed and blossomed over the last six years.

The second photo was also taken at Live Oak.  It is equally symbolic of the trusting relationships we strive to build at Valley View. In this image I have captured a child being lifted off the ground horizontally, passed through a "spider web" without touching, and then received on the other side. The challenge requires communication, problem-solving, courage and trust. Thirteen teammates had to be lifted and passed through the web (each child had to go through a different opening of all different heights and widths) for the team to experience success. There were moments of frustration and anxiety and sometimes tears brimmed on the edge of eyes, but by the end of the challenge there were encouraging words, great discussion, remarkable problem-solving, tremendous persistence and gratifying success. It was a wonderful sight to behold.

It is rewarding to capture and share images that remind us how grateful we are for each day. Whether on an adventure off campus or in the classroom learning, we are grateful to share the grand moments and the tiny moments that shape your children's lives.

Respectfully,

Jennifer Dusek

Proud Valley View Principal

BOX TOPS NEEDED

The deadline for Box Top submission is fast approaching on November 1st. Drop your box tops in the cabinet by the front office so our school can get FREE money from the Box Tops for Education Program!

GRATITUDE

Alex Allen, in Mrs. Menichini's 4th grade class, approached Matt Walker of "GotNets?" about Valley View's need for new basketball nets on the lower blacktop by the field. Matt and his two WHS sons graciously offered to replace the schools nets with new ones and donate a basketball to VVE students as well.  It's one thing to give nets, it's an entirely wonderful next step to go above and beyond and do the physical work!! Thanks you to Alex and the "GotNets?" team for improving our lower court area. Students will enjoy this for years to come.

QUICK REPORT

We are always looking for ways to foster an even safer and more caring school community.  We have added a new feature to our websites to ensure students, staff and parents have a voice to report issues that may affect their peers and/or schools.

Quick Report allows school administrators to receive tips at any time and have the ability to respond in a timely manner to issues that impact the school or individual students. The reported issues range from bullying to weapons/threats.

Students, staff, parents and other stakeholders can visit the district website or any campus website and click either "Connect" at the top navigation bar, "Quick Links" at the top navigation bar, or click under the "Students" section, then select "Quick Report".

Once on the Quick Report page, you can identify which school(s) receives the tip, select an appropriate topic from the drop down list, write the message and submit the tip. There is also an option to include a photograph as appropriate. Messages may be communicated anonymously or with contact information.

Please note that in an emergency, you should call 911, or in the case of a mental health crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
