PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Recently, I had the pleasure of seeking feedback from new teammates as they shared their first month of school experiences. I remember the same disbelief at my good fortune thirteen years ago. They sit in awe, as I did and still do, at the marvel of so many happy, healthy children; supportive and kind parents; and dedicated, generous teammates, all gathered in one place. If you have served anywhere else, EISD and Valley View seem too good to be true. To this day, I proudly share with anyone who will listen that my life has been enriched in ways I never imagined possible as relationships with children, their families and my incredible teammates have grown over time. Valley View is truly a unique and extremely special school filled with remarkable children and adults. To my new teammates, I can honestly say, it only gets better over time.

How do we make deep connections like the ones we treasure at Valley View? The secret is simple. We provide as many positive shared experiences as we can in a safe, welcoming environment.
We focus on common interests and provide opportunities for family and friends to have fun. We spend more time "fun"raising then we do "fund"raising and we never take a single act of kindness or a single donation for granted. We are grateful and give thanks daily.

Building and maintaining rich traditions is what we do. These traditions make our school our own. I know it to be true when I talk to former VVE Cardinals, now in high school or college. They often ask if the School Carnival, BINGO Night, Sock Hop, Fun Run, 4thGrade Field Trip to the Coast and 5th Grade Live Oak experiences are still alive. They are quick to share memories made inside and outside the school building.

These memories serve as a great example of the significance of coming together as a community in small and large ways. Loving thy neighbor or raising a child in a village begins with actually knowing who your neighbors are and seeking to understand the many things we have in common and recognizing and accepting our unique differences too. This belief is at the heart of what we do. We want every child, family and staff member to feel accepted, valued and important while at Valley View.

Last Sunday, many of you took part and contributed to the first of many school traditions this year- the School Carnival. Just as we had hoped the parking lot was full, hair was colored, cheeks were pink from moving, laughter was heard and engagement was positive and high. We are grateful for Lori Foster, her husband and children and a team of incredible volunteers for leading the carnival. We appreciate all parents for donating supplies, volunteering to work and enjoying a simple and fun afternoon together. It was a sweet day in many ways. We hope the memories you and your children made stay with you always.

Cheers to the first of many memory-making days at VVE!

Gratefully,

Jennifer Dusek

Proud Principal

GRATITUDE

Hats off to LORI FOSTER and her Carnival helpers!!  Lori Foster stepped up and lead with enthusiasm and great organization as the School Carnival Chair. LORI put in countless hours assuring that Valley View's 2017 Carnival was one to remember! When complimented, she immediately gave credit to other volunteers. She held her head high even though they were short 50 volunteers! Thank you, LORI, for your gift of time and energy towards one of Valley View's most fun events! The carnival was a success because of you!
